Summary
The book of 1 Samuel closes with the death of Israel’s first king, Saul. The book of 2 Samuel records the reign of Israel’s king David. He rules for 40 years. David described in the Bible as a man after God’s own heart, brought the nation together, made Jerusalem its religious and political capital, and secured the kingdom’s territory. God even promised that David’s dynasty would endure forever. However, the turning point in David’s life occurred when he sinned by committing adultery and murder. God’s promise to David and his descendants was not revoked, but he was haunted for the rest of his reign by family and national crisis. (NIV audio Bible)
