Genesis is the first book of the Bible, and the first part of the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible that records God’s Laws and the Israelites’ first inspired body of Scripture. Creation of the Universe and the humankind, and the establishment of the covenant relationship between God and the first people He created (the Israelites) are written in this book.
Authorship and Date
The author of Genesis does not specify himself in the book, but the Old Testament (Ex 17:14; Jos33:2; 1Ki 2:3), the New Testament (Mt 8:4; Mk12:26; Ro10:19), and the early church ascribe the book to Moses. It is believed to be written in around 1400 B.C.
